“Gluten-free” is every where these days! It has even become the new catchphrase to sell food. Unfortunately shopping in the Gluten-free isle isn’t always the healthiest. (But that’s a post for another time!)
What exactly is gluten and why is it a problem for most people? Latin for “glue”, gluten is a protein composite that gives elasticity to dough. Gluten is a gut irritant that makes tiny lacerations in the intestinal wall. Have you heard the term “leaky gut”? Well , Gluten and Casein (found in dairy) are the biggest offenders. These partially undigested food particles leak into the system and cause inflammation. Inflammation can cause a host of health problems including weight-gain, digestive issues, joint pain, acne, muscle aches, headaches, psoriasis and autoimmune disorders to name a few. Yes, inflammation and your gut are at the head of the table when it comes to your health. Most people still think that unless you have Celiacs Disease, it’s okay to consume gluten freely. You may want to rethink that one. If you have any type of inflammation, you suffer from any type of disease, mental illness (including anxiety or depression) or an auto immune disease, you may want to consider “giving up the glue”.
I know this is hard to hear. Trust me, when I first decided to give up Gluten, I thought it was going to be the hardest thing I ever did. It was challenging at first, but when I started to feel better and my horrible symptoms began to go away, I knew that this was the road that I wanted to take. This is one of the many reasons why I became a Nutrition Consultant. I knew that if I could help people get to the root of the symptoms, and support them in removing that problem, they would have a chance to heal naturally and be able to take back their health. The best part of all of this? You have the power to do this! You can actually heal your body with food and practice! I say practice because it takes practice and baby steps and a lot of practice. But the end result is you feeling really good and energized! You deserve to feel good, look good, and thrive! Oh yeah, one more thing, there is plenty of food without Gluten! Naturally:)

Here’s to giving up what doesn’t fuel you!
