Forget the Bun Friday!
Are you tired of trying to figure out what kind of bread you should be eating? It’s a free for all out there! Whole wheat has been ingrained (pun intended) in our heads for the last 20 years. Now we know it’s not the greatest. The grain itself even in it’s “whole” state is extremely hard for our bodies to break down, gluten sensitive or not. So what about the other breads and buns?( Well, I have been through them all. Starting out with sprouted Esiekial Bread then moving on to Gluten Free and now I am (with the exception of a few organic tortilla chips), Grain Free. Each of us is on our own path and I don’t expect anyone to walk mine. BUT since I do this for a living and I love to help others feel better, look better and liver better, I will share my experiences with you.)
The best suggestion that I can give you is to listen to your body. Most people are going to do a whole lot better on a Gluten-Free diet. Gluten is a gnarly little protein that acts like a glue. It slows us down, creates imbalance and inflammation, which makes our bodies hurt. It creates turmoil in our brain, ADD, ADHD, depression, fatigue, anxiety. It makes us gain weight, riding forever on a sugar roller coaster that you feel you can never get off! I could go on and on. There are so many books out right now confirming this information. Please grab yourself one and arm yourself with good information! ( My favorites are Primal Blueprint and Wheat Belly, to name a couple. ) I am also coming out with my own 60 day Guide that will help you get through the madness of this transition.) So, no, I don’t think it’s a fad. Sure, the big food companies have jumped on the bandwagon and are making sure they profit. That’s where you have to be careful. JUST BECAUSE IT’S GLUTEN-FREE DOESN’T MEAN IT’S HEALTHY! (Read your labels.) So you decide to give it a go. You are going Gluten-Free, whether you know someone who has done it and looks fabulous or your M.D. or Chiropractor recommended it, you are doing it. I say, way to go! Way to step out of your bread comfort zone! I know it’s not easy. But if you can think of the bun or bread or cracker as a vessel, you can begin to open your mind to other whole foods that you could use instead, right? Maybe just skip the Gluten-Free bun and try the tomato over there to your left, simply cut in half . Wow! Juicy and delicious with my grass fed burger. Or how about two pieces of crisp lettuce? It’s messy and fabulous! Now, you can taste the meat! But I understand if you don’t want to give up all breads in the beginning. Like I said before, this is your food path. Just try and open your mind to not needing it. When you fill your belly with nutritionally dense foods, good fat, vitamins and minerals, you don’t reaally need the crap any more. So instead of meatless Monday, maybe you can try “Forget the Bun Friday” and see if you truly miss it!
