My Favorite Hummus!

I have been eating Hummus for a long time now, it seems. I love the many textures and flavors out on the market these days. Unfortunately if you look closely at most of them, you will find that they add Soybean Oil. Since I really try hard to avoid Soy altogether, (especially non organic due to the fact that it is genetically modifed), I have been making my own. I had been wanting to anyway, but it always seemed like a bigger task than it really is! It’s so easy to make and you can add whatever you want!  My “go to” lately has been Sun Dried Tomato Hummus or Pesto Hummus since I always have Pesto frozen from the summer. But to keep it simple today, I will give you my base recipe and you can get creative from there!

What you will need:

1 can of Organic Garbanzo Beans

1 medium sized lemon

3 tbls. of Tahini (Sesame Seed Butter)

3 tbls. of purified water

3 tbls. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Sea Salt

Black Pepper

~If you have a high speed blender, such as a Blendtec or Nutribullet, I would definitely use it! Either one will make the hummus extremely smooth!

Start with juicing your lemon. Add the lemon juice, water and Tahini. Blend on high for 1 minute. Next, add your Garbanzos and blend on high for another minute. Lastly, add your Olive Oil and a couple pinches of Sea Salt and Pepper to taste. Voila!

If it seems too thick for you, you can add another tablespoon of water and blend again. The original amount works for me, but play around with it and see what works for you and your equipment:)

Now, if want to get fancy, here are some optional add – ins:

Sun Dried Tomatoes, Roasted Garlic, Raw Garlic, Basil, Pine Nuts, Red Pepper, Cilantro, Hot Sauce, Jalapenos,… If you use any of these, just add them  after you get the beans nice and creamy.

I like my Hummus on my Flax Seed Crackers with Kalamata Olives and extra Olive Oil. How do you like yours?
